Road to Grand Final: Maybank GO Ahead Challenge 2013

Halo semua!

Beberapa minggu yang lalu, I joined an International Business Case Competition named; 

Maybank Go Ahead Challenge 2013.

Lomba yang satu ini bisa dibilang sudah ditunggu-tunggu for quite some time. Pertama kali dengar tentang lomba ini dari pengalaman langsung Runner-Up lomba ini di tahun 2012, Akhmad Rahadian , mentor dan senior super keren di kampus.

Prosesnya cukup wah dan lama. Kalau sempat buka link websitenya apalagi nonton video-videonya, Lomba ini pantas dibilang "Niat Banget". Dari proses seleksi hingga prize money-nya yang menampar, I personally think that this is a grandiose extensive grand project for a recruitment model (seriously).

Hadiah untuk Pemenang Grand Final

Garis besarnya, beberapa kandidat dari tiap negara akan dipertandingkan di Grand Final di KL Agustus nanti. Negaranya? Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong dan United Kingdom. Jiper much? :D not yet bro; Lomba ini juga salah satu kriterianya adalah boleh diikuti mahasiswa tahun Penultimate dan Final Year dari Undergraduate maupun Graduate Studies. Super Jiper.

Namun tentu big challenge offers big return ya :) 

First Phase- Online Registration + Video Submission

Well, dimulai dari proses daftar yang mudah dan cepat, ada hal unik juga dari lomba lainnya which is  video submission. Di sini bisa dibilang saatnya untuk unjuk gigi diantara applicants yang lain. 

Di video diminta untuk perkenalan diri, pengalaman, dan pengetahuan tentang Global Banking, but make it as compact and as compelling as possible. You can find mine if you will.

Second Phase- Online Assessment

Setelah itu, Alhamdulillah setelah beberapa minggu pendaftaran, I got shortlisted untuk National Level Final tahap I. Disitu selanjutnya, gue diminta untuk mengikuti Online Assessment di suatu website mirip Ujian di kelas Infrastruktur IT Modern :D. 

Ada dua test untuk uji kognitif yaitu Verbal Test dan Numerical Test. By far, bisa dibilang online assessment ini SUSAH parah (ga lebay). Verbal Test sangat mirip ujian TOEFL IBT, butuh ketelitian, daily conversation, slang knowledge, plus sering baca buku english dan nonton film pake subtitle inggris. Di Numerical Test sangat mirip pula dengan ujian online dari Unilever dan kuis online SCeLe. Disini overall butuh jeli lihat data, itung di kepala cepat, sama basic knowledge di bisnis dan perbankan.

According to kak Ian; "Gampang kok, rileks aja", Realita yang gue alami: Soalnya ngehe dan mendebarkan, tapi challenging! Seru!

Yang parah adalah kedua test ini waktunya ga main-main, kilat. Kalau ga salah, Untuk Verbal 25 menit dan untuk Numeric 20 menit. Nah for confidentiality purposes, kayaknya belum bisa di share disini konten dan tipe-tipe soalnya, insyaAllah mau minta ijin dulu untuk ngeshare at later time :)

Third Phase- National Level

Long story short, beberapa hari/minggu selanjutnya, kotak inbox gue mulai berhantu, sepi. Sebelum rasa pesimis meraba, iseng-iseng email ke panitia untuk nanya 'Status' perlombaan, siapa tau aja keterima hehe. Out of the galau blue, ada balesan masuk dengan inti: "Lho, kamu masuk final kok." Er...OK. Gaada waktu dan niat buat ngeluh, ucap Alhamdulillah banget dulu bisa lolos ke Final. So pumped and thrilled!

4th of July. Happy Birthday USA! 

Hari dimulai dengan minta doa dan dukungan dari keluarga dan teman-teman. Makin semangat dapet balesan "Goodluck" "GO!" dari mentor-mentor yang lagi honeymoon ke US juga (shrug @fira2104 dan @ianhutomo )

Wait, no. Hari dimulai dengan kepala super pusing akibat sok belajar persiapan sampai jam 2 malam. Berbekal tidur zombie paket 3 jam, berangkat dari rumah jam 6 pagi tanpa sarapan (Yes, it turns out gue bisa bangun pagi juga) via kereta super padat ke Sudirman - 19 ke Plaza Senayan - Mata berbinar lihat McD yang udah buka - naik ke Sentral Senayan III ke kantor Maybank BII sambil ngunyah McMuffin + Kopi terhambar seumur hidup. 

Hell of a trip, eh? Finally, registrasi and the game is ON!

Dengan name tag C22, gue duduk di seat ujung pojok. Kenalan dengan beberapa finalis berdekatan duduknya, yang akan jadi partner tim gue ternyata di assessment selanjutnya. Shortly setelah masuk, tes dimulai. 

Again for confidentiality purposes, detailnya sepertinya tidak boleh di ceritakan, karena di negara lain National Level masih belum berlangsung. Tapi garis besarnya adalah:

1.      Numeric and Verbal Assessment (yes, again.) 

Individually.

2.       Brain Teasers!

     

     Ini super seru! I really wish I can share it all with you. Basically, yang pernah denger tentang buku "Are You Smart Enough to Work at GOOGLE?" ya kira-kira seperti itu. 

    Quoting buku itu, the questions are teasing, like literally LOL: "How many light bulbs would fit into a BOEING 747?" "Why are Manholes shaped round?" . Seru dan nampol! Nampolnya? diberi waktu super kilat! 

3. Innovation Challenge

Diberi kasus, gue dalam tim bertiga, dengan Komang (a girl) from ITS/Udayana Geophysics I can't seem to remember, dan mas Angga (Lulusan 2002 ) ITS jurusan IT, membuat sebuah prototipe produk untuk solving kasus bisnis tadi.

Di sesi ini agak bisa nyantai karena waktunya yang lumayan sufficient. Di sesi ini kita bertiga bisa dibilang paling "ngehe" di ruangan itu. Ketawa-ketawa dan ga peduli dengan keadaan tim lain :D I do think this is also our strongest point, though.

Nah, throughout the day, kami 24 orang dari seluruh Indonesia ini, dimanjakan dengan sesi-sesi Coffee Break, Lunch Break, Afternoon Break, etc. Perfect banget untuk orang kayak gue! Nah, berkat itu juga jadi timbul banyak sesi networking antar finalis. Finalisnya sendiri datang dari berbagai macam background; Gue dari IS, ada dari Bisnis, Mene, Akun, Fisika, Matematik, Geofisika, IT, dll. Kampusnya sendiri juga macam-macam walaupun memang didominasi kampus macam Business School. Kampusnya: 

-UI (Ada 3 anak UI, Gue Fasilkom, dan 2 Anak Akun UI 2010)

-Prasetya Mulya Business School (Lebih dari 5, I kinda forgot)

-ITB SBM dan ITB reguler

-President Univ

-ITS

-Unpad

etc.

Balik ke prosesi lomba, saatnya masuk ke sesi Eliminasi (Yep, no joke). Dari 24 finalis ini hanya akan terpilih 12 orang untuk masuk ke sesi selanjutnya. 

Alhamdulillah lagi, gue masuk ke sesi selanjutnya. Memulangkan 12 orang, berjabatan, berpelukan, 2 Anak UI lainnya bump-fist sama gue diikuti "Menangin UI ya, san". Jiper++

Nevertheless, 12 orang ini keluar mulut singa masuk ke lubang buaya. Sesi selanjutnya;

1.     Business Case Analysis

Analisa kasus bisnis dan kasih solusi rekomendasi. As usual, waktunya kilat. 12 Menit untuk berpuluh halaman. Screamo!

2.     Group Discussion

Nah, setelah punya strategi masing-masing di kasus tadi. Gue di grupkan dengan Mas Angga (again!) dan Dendy (PrasMul Marketing 2010) untuk bisa sepakat di satu strategi yang solid. Believe me ini susah karena kita sama-sama hotheads dan punya poin kuat masing-masing. Again, kayaknya di tiap sesi grup gue jadi katalis buat ketawa-tawa, alhasil grup discussion ini pun jadi "Ngehe" lagi LOL. Tanpa lupa dengan bumbu waktu yang kilat, 10Menit!

3.     Debate and Presentation

Strengthening Marketing Strategy vs Product Differentiation

Nah tiap tim akan dibattle dengan tim lain tentang strategi mana yang harusnya diimplementasikan. Untuk kalian yang familiar dengan English Debate, it was exactly like that. Seru, panas, dan banyak ludah dimuncratkan!

Setelah ini, diumumkan pemenang debatnya (Alhamdulillah lagi tim gue dipilih strateginya, woot!), dan dua tim ini harus diskusi kembali menjadi satu kesatuan untuk presentasi strategi ke BoD. Cool dan sangat konstruktif!

Finally, the whole assessment is over! Selanjutnya kita ber-12 menunggu pengumuman. Selesainya kita semua selonjoran sambil makan break terakhir sembari ngobrol macam-macam

Oh and you should note that, dengan super niatnya penyelenggara ini, ada tim produksi dari Maybank MY yang ekslusif shooting dan interview kita layaknya kompetisi untuk TV Show (the Apprentice) like you saw on the video below. Jadi, selain kita yang harus selalu aktif dan ON, seharian itu dipenuhi sesi berdebar-debar menunggu pengumuman, menunggu giliran tampil,"What do you think about that assessment?", "Do you think you would go to the Grand Final?" "10 more seconds!", "Ikhsan! Stop giggling!" and etc.

We waited for the announcement dengan sangat letih dan panas otak yang menjerit 

“No, we do not need more croissant and macarons! We need rice, white rice!”.

Setelah kira-kira 2,2 jam. Hasil keluar....

Oddly, gue sangat mengingat pengumuman akhirnya dengan detil-detil yang absurd.

Hello Again,

It's been a while.

Susah juga menghimpun niat yang berembun buat nulis blog. Tapi setelah mendengar beberapa insight dan opini kalo ternyata blogging itu turns out bisa memberi banyak manfaat untuk logic dan creative thinking, I guess I'll try to stick for a pint :p , let's find some closure also :)

These past posts (replacing these past years/month/esp) apart from Campus stuff (even I am sick of tired of sharing of how cruel life in Fasilkom as it is always, never ending hard work) , life has been busy with my baby, my boo, my lover, my mistress, COMPUTER FESTIVAL 2012! lol

Managing, leading, and whatnot has been great and full of joy plus sweats supported by a wonderful fun team! I'll post some more about CompFest in (maybe) a lot of upcoming posts :)

Java Rockin' Land 2011

Hectic month. Where other non-jakarta-n students got back to their hometown.
As for me? not even close. Even though college holiday are officially started on June (and ended up in Sept) , i spent the early 'holy'-day by creeping on Depok & Jakarta.
Not hibernating, no. Actually, i went to Bandung for a short vacation, but lets save it for later.
And lets bury our head into the pensieve of Java Rockin' Land 2011 (click) :D

it was Friday, 22th
(lets just cut the story short)
Went there by car, with Eja & Hariz , off in 'selepas maghrib' around 6pm, and the traffic was DEADLY.
Long dreadful drive and countless mouthful of swears, we got to the Carnaval Beach at around 8pm
first word upon arriving, "FUCKING FUCK!" it literally needs about 1.5km walk between the parking lot (not exactly best to describe the 'space' as a parking lot but, hellish hell ) and the JRL's entrance. And not to mention halfway to the entrance i forgot my cam in the car, so....
got in at 8.30pm

and Keith are already strummed his guitar. Fuck, We Are Scientist are already on the damned stage...

Despite of the wonderful performance of Keith and friends, i'm not having much fun because of the lousy, imbecile, stinky crowd. I'm pretty much sure other WAS fans felt the same

Anyway, after the WAS performance, i get back to meet up with Eja & Hariz.
Halfway, i met Andrio (@andriooo) and Rifky (Highschool friend)
and off to BNI Dome, after checking the schedule of the upcoming awaited ban, MARS!
as you can see the schedule..

Netral was staggering!
though i only know about 4-5 songs of the show, i enjoyed the show
the crowd are really crazy (why of course, because Netral is an Indonesian band) and energetic
Especially when Garuda di Dadaku are playing, total MADNESS!
too bad i dont record the performance... well,

After the show, Me rifky Eja & Hariz rushed out of the dome, trying to save ourselves some space for Mars show later on 1am...but...
the crowds are already there, already waiting for hours, hungry of the first Mars show in Indonesia.
And so, we waited, for almost 2 CONSECUTIVE HOURS, standing, literally.

Intervention

well, i think, going to college, is a big step, no.. huge.
As you may know, i moved here frm Jogja, majoring IS in UI. i lived here alone.
I know it seems weird to bring this up again, because i'm not that freshmen anymore, 2nd semester already, but..
Sometimes, when i woke up at my house in Depok, every single day, the air tasted different
It's like some burden, or duty, or whatever this thing weighed on me, it's creeping me every single day.

I started to question myself..


Washed my hands and face, brushed teeth.
"Apa bener ini semua yang lo pengen?"

Grabbed my towel and took a shower
"Lo ngapain kuliah disini?"

Dressed up, Made cereal
"Apa beda kuliah disini ama Jogja, Semarang, or Bandung?"

Packed up bag, put on shoes
"Udah nyiapin tujuan?"

Shuffled my shuffle
"Nyobain hidup mandiri?"

Shut the door
"Mau jadi apa lo nantinya?"

it always hit me.
and me myself, are struggling hard to figured it out.
I know, majoring in UI are tough stuff. but then, I DO really want this am i?

I know by standing in this, i stand my ground. UI and the capital of the country are land of opportunities.
I dont do much in high school, well maybe a little, but i realize i had fun.
but now, this is the real deal, growing up.
living in this place, INSISTED you to be fully grown, LEVELED UP
this is the point where i should learn,
i should struggle,
i should challenge,
i should survive.

People had dreams, right?
and so am i,
but those questions instill me vulnerability,
questioning my capabilities.

and then i realize, i am still craving for 'high-school' fun.
i play warcraft over productive times, leaning and avoiding some issues,
i procrastinated so much i lost my scholarship and exchange opportunities
i've been lazy and suck at some subjects.
i didnt give my best at all events and org i joined.

i need intervention, from me, and for me.
i know it takes time to fit in,
i need some hard slapping, wake up call.

and i realize, i waited, and i kept pausing stuff. questioning, whilst opportunities and chances passed by
bright seniors got what they want, praised, and they LEVELED UP
they relentlessly motivated me, indirectly

i need to be as close as much, what they achieve,
whilst the internet kept trolling things about the rapture thing,
i guess i found my starting point.
lets just hope the shadows not that itchy anymore

Computer Festival 2011

KOPHI, a youth movement! National Congress 2011

Evening, dalam kesempatan kali ini gue akan menceritakan sedikit tentang KOPHI dan event besarnya tahun ini, sedikit aja.

So, I joined this NGO in January of 2011, endorsed (woelah) by Mia, a friend from a friend.
Luckily got in Public Relation staff,after. Well, not much of a choices, to be blunt.
Reason? Jakarta is a big city, as a capital of the country, this city gives you tons of opportunities. In such a young age, getting involved in a big, inspiring, and nature-friendly NGO are one of so many single step i should take, road to achieve things.
Basically, Kophi are consists of college students frm Jabodetabek. Led by Cea from London School, we aim to be the biggest youth-empowered eco-friendly NGO in Indonesia


Out yet biggest event this year, are the National Congress.

Mereka akan mendapatkan training, workshop, dan seminar mengenai lingkungan dan pengembangan kapasitas kepemimpinan di selama 3 hari Jakarta, dan 1 hari terakhir yang merupakan festival yang dapat dihadiri oleh anak muda dari seluruh Indonesia.

Selama 3 hari itu, mereka akan dipilih menjadi Pengurus Regional KOPHI dengan masa jabatan selama 1 tahun, yaitu 2011-2012. Mereka yang hadir di Kongres Nasional tersebut juga harus menjadi agen perubahan untuk daerahnya. Mereka harus mengaplikasikan proyek yang mereka ajukan dengan mengajak anak-anak muda dan komunitas di daerahnya, serta mengirimkan progress report setiap bulan. Diharapkan peserta akan membawa perubahan yang positif bagi lingkungan sekitarnya."

Student for Tomorrow : “Students today…. Leaders tomorrow.” Demikian teriak para peserta dalam pembukaan proyek pertama IFL pada pembuka tahun 2011 ini. Disponsori Microsoft Asia Pacific dan Pearson Foundation, Students for Tomorrow (SFT) adalah proyek sosial kerjasama Indonesia dan Filipina yang terwujud dalam forum kolaboratif siswa SMA (se-Jabodetabek) untuk mengasah 3 aspek intelektualitas siswa yakni kepribadian, kewirausahaan dan kepemimpinan. Layaknya a month course, proyek ini mengajak 49 siswa dari 12 SMA yang terpilih melalui seleksi administrasi website menjalani beberapa rangkaian kegiatan sosial yang seru dan menantang.

Program ini dimulai dengan seminar sehari yang dilaksanakan 29 Januari 2011 dan mendatangkan pembicara yang kompeten di bidangnya, yaitu: Pak Iwan Winanda (Soft Skills Trainer), Nina Nuraniyah (Ashoka Young Changemaker), Maman Abdurrokhman (Ketua BEM UI), dan Adhyatmika (Democracy

Challenge video winner). Kegiatan pertama ini merupakan bagian dari Capacity Building yang diharapkan dapat memberikan peserta bekal nan matang untuk memiliki kecerdasan intelektual dan sosial yang ditargetkan.

Selama 2 minggu dari tanggal 30 Februari – 10 Februari 2011 peserta akan diberikan “Fundraising Challenge.” Peserta diberikan modal total 2,5 juta dan kemudian dengan ide kreatif mereka memanfaatkannya untuk melipatgandakan jumlah tersebut yang mana hasil dari fundraising akan di donasikan ke perkampungan nelayan di Cilincin Jakarta Utara.

Tidak hanya itu, Pada tanggal 12 Febrauri 2011, mereka akan diikutsertakan dalam Saturday Academy Community service dimana mereka akan mempraktekan paper recycling dan mengajar sekolah gratis Hope Indonesia.












Sebelum presentasi dan talkshow dimulai, Pembukaan SFT diawalai dengan sambutan dari project Officer SFT, Niwa Rahmad Dwitama. Kemudian acara dilanjutkan dengan pembukaan secara resmi melalui pengguntingan pita oleh Sekretaris IFL Rizki yuniarini. Dalam presentasi pertama, Pak Iwan Winanda menceritakan tentang bagaimana cara menjadi pemuda yang efektif dan kompetitif dan jawabannya adalah dengan 4C (Care, Create, Collaborate, Contribute). Di sesi berikutnya, Mbak Nina Nuraniyah meyakinkan peserta bagaimana pemuda sejatinya dapat membawa perubahan positif terhadap masyarakat. Follow your passion! itu kuncinya! Di sesi Talkshow, Ketua BEM UI menceritakan tentang kisah kepemimpinannya dan Adhyatmika menceritakan pengalamannya menerima penghargaan dari Hillary Clinton dan menekankan arti penting dari demokrasi adalah bahwa kita semua masih dan akan terus belajar menerapkan demokrasi dari rakyat, oleh rakyat, dan untuk rakyat.

Pertanyaan kritis dan diskusi hangat terjadi di seminar yang dilaksanakan di FISIP-Universitas Indonesia ini. Peserta terlihat sangat antusias dan tertarik dengan materi yang disampaikan pembicara. Begitu pula hingga akhir acara, dimana panitia memberikan arahan teknis tentang “Fundraising Challenge.” Challenge ini pun dilaksanakan oleh 5 kelompok fundraising yang terdiri dari gabungan 2/3 SMA yang berkolaborasi mengatur strategi untuk fundraising dengan cara unik mereka masing-masing.

Pada akhir acara, SFT juga akan menganugerahi 4 penghargaan kepada peserta. Adapun penghargaan tersebut adalah: (1) SFT 2011 award, (2) Best Fundraising Team dan (3) Best Community Service Team.
